I have an HP pavilion n5350 850 mhz w/ speedstep. The battery only lasts for 45 minutes at the most when running simple programs like notepad with long pauses in between. For example, I'll use notepad for 5 minutes, then leave it, it'll turn the LCD off for 10 minutes, then I'll lose it for another 10 minutes. Well anyways, running minimal applications for 45 minutes doesn't seem like it should drain the battery. Whats the average times you guys are getting for laptop battery life? Is 45 minutes normal for not running anything? If its not normal, is there something wrong w/ the battery, should i send for a replacement?

Definitely send it in for replacement......soon, because most manufacturers don't warranty the battery as long as the entire machine.

Of all the laptops i've owned, the battery has always lasted longer than 2 hours. With heavy use the batteries tend to fail over time... sounds like your time is now. :)

LiIon...the problem is its never been under heavy use. The laptop has been heavily used but its always been plugged in. I don't think my sister used it w/o the ac adapter more than 5 times total. Each time was because the power went out in her dorm room. She also said each time it only lasted for like 15 minutes running word and winamp. I started using it straight off the battery and I can't get more than 45 minutes out of it running notepad and an applet version of the language scheme.

15 minutes?! Are these laptops used?

Either way, call HP ASAP and try to get them to replace the batteries, if they are still under warranty.

Yeah a Lithium Ion battery should definitely last more than that...

Even my old old laptop I used to have (which uses a NiMH battery) lasted more than 1 hr with full use...
