I am sorry if I posted this at the wrong forum.

I got some problem with my laptop's battery. It is Compaq Presario 900 US, Athlon XP 1700+, as summary described. The problem occurred few weeks ago when I was charging my battery and was running the newest version of Battery Eater Pro, version 2.22. Anyway, the battery was charging at around 36%. At first I did not give much though, because as some of you might have already known, the battery charging phase is slow. But then after about 10 minutes or so, I checked the charging status again and I found that it is still stuck at 36%. Then I made a mistake of just unpluggin the AC adaptor to see if the battery is working, and well, my computer shutted down. I tried to boot the laptop by just using the battery, but it would not boot up. By then, I figure I had a battery problem. The good thing is that I had those service plan stuffs from the store I bought the laptop from. So I take the laptop along with battery to them and after some inspection, actually they just see if the battery will charge, they indicated that battery was not working and was going to send me a new one.

So to make the long story short, after few days I got the new battery and I did not try to use it till this weekend. So when I was charging the new battery, it would not charge after sometime, I figure it was because the battery was too hot so I take it out and let it cool for a while and retry again. And it works. But this morning when I was trying to boot the laptop using the new battery and discharge the battery, because the instruction from the new battery box indicated that the maximum battery capacity should be reached after couple charge/discharge cycle, the laptop would not boot up. I plugged in the AC adaptor and boot into Windows and left the battery to be charged up, since the indicator shows up as the battery not fully charged and after boot into Windows, the battery shows 99% charged. But after a while, about 20 minutes or so, I checked back the status and the the battery still stuck at 99%. Even now, as I was trying to see if it works, it still shows as 99% charged. I come to the conclusion that the connector from the computer to the battery might be broke or something, but I am unsure.

Anyway, does anyone had this kind of problem before? Or know what is the origin of the problem? Even though I still have about a year of service plan left from the store and eventually I am going to take it back to see if they can fix it, but I would like to know how to solve this problem in case that it occurs again after the service plan expired.:(

Oh, on the side note, I upgraded the KBC firmware to the newest one available from Compaq.

Possibly the reading could be wrong which would be a software problem or as you thought and i might agree the connection from battery to laptop might be at fault, i'd try for a replacement laptop if possible under warranty

I have given some thoughts that the reading might be wrong. But when I plug in the AC adaptor along with the battery in place, the LED battery charging indicator still shows that the battery is being charged. So that kind of threw me off on what might be the problem. It might be that the new battery is faulty.

I am not sure if the store will give me a replacement laptop. My warranty from Compaq expired months ago :( and all I have left is the service plan. So I am unsure whether or not they would try to fix it or what.

The store I bought the laptop from is Best Buy, so if anyone had service plan from them concerning laptops, please drop some feedback as well.

My Compaq Presario 1510T gets funky with its battery indicator too. I powered it on once, fresh charge. After about 2 minutes, Windows goes nuts and says "Warning, battery at 5%!" and it went into standby mode. I turned it back on, the battery read 0%. It kept working for another hour - and it only stopped then because I turned it off.

I do not remember that I had such problem before, but I did have problem when I was trying to charge the battery and the indicator was blinking as if the battery was low. But that was long before I had the current problem, though it might had been an indication of something was wrong. Although I was just thinking maybe it was because the battery was too hot, since Compaq put the position of the battery compartment next to the where RAM slots are.
