Laptop Battery Performance Monitor

  1. Overview of the problem
    There are laptops that lose battery life quite frequently, and I would like to know if the problem lies with the user not charging them properly, or the battery itself. These laptops are attached to "carts" and are wheeled around to patient rooms (I work at a Hospital).
    I need to monitor the battery life of these laptops using a performance log of some sort, but I dont see the thread for such. I see that there are many programs out there, but it is not going to be acceptable to have to shell out 25 dollars per license, as there are 50 or so laptops around here.

    Running XP SP2 with updates - wireless is enabled on every laptop.

    update: I suppose I am looking for a Performance Monitor Counter that logs battery usage/life/ect.
