Laptop battery life question...

I am not sure which forum this goes in, I figure its a general hardware issue so Ill put it here.

I was told that if you leave a battery in a laptop, and leave the laptop plugged into the AC adapter all the time, it will ruin your battery.

Most of my laptop computing is done here in the house, so I just use the ac adapter almost all the time, I removed the battery from my laptop, and only use it when I really need it. This laptop I got used, about a year and a half ago, the battery still holds a good charge and lasts a long time when I do use it.

I am getting a new laptop, a Dell Inspiron, and I was wondering if I should just remove the battery and do it the same way Ive done with the old one, or was that just pointless to take the battery out.

Thanks for any input.

Most new laptop batteries do not have a memory, so they will not be ruined by this, but it is good practice to let the battery run all the way down occasionally and then charge back up. Also, if yourt laptop is plugged up most of the time, take battery out and only use it when you are going to be mobile with it.
