Laptop battery died

Asus ROG G73JH. The internal battery died. Currently running on power supply unit alone, which works fine.
I have 0% available, plugged in, not charging. Looking to replace battery or is it safe to run off power supply alone. How difficult is it to replace internal battery with a new one? Please advise.

Isnt a laptop battery usually latched on externally? Should be easy to find a third party compatible one.

Yes and no. the external battery/brick/power supply charges the laptop and internal battery. It's the internal battery that died. In other words, without the external PSU, the computer has no other power source (battery) and will not boot/run.

... Flip over the laptop, battery is centre rear, disnengage latch on the left hand side and slide battery out. No dissassembly required.

Yes, but no more popping sounds...I can't say the demise of the internal battery was caused by the new PSU. Also. I've had this laptop for 5 years.

It is safe to just run it off the power brick/adapter. I use an old Gateway laptop been running for months now, with no issues.
