Laptop Battery compatibility

I have two HP laptops. An Omnibook XE3-gf and a Pavillion 5000 series. The batteries fit into each others compartments, but are different part numbers.

Omnibook: NiMH, 10.8V, 4000mAH, Sanyo PN: 9HR-4/3AU, (says "replace with HP F2024A LiIon)

Pavillion: LiIon, 11.1V, 3600mAH, HP F2193

Can I use the LiIon in the Omnibook without causing permanent damage to the computer?
