Laptop battery charging LED does not turn off

I have an ABS Mayhem G4 Laptop and recently the LED that indicates "battery is charging" stays on even when the power management utility says it's charged to 100%.
I thought that maybe the battery is mis-gauged so I discharged the battery and recharged it. It usually recharges within 2 hours from 0% to 100%, but this time eventhough I left it charging for the whole night the gauge still reads "60%" and apparently is staying at 60%...So the LED is still on and apparently still trying to charge up the "60%" battery.
Why does this happen? Anyway to get the laptop to read the amount of battery left correctly so it can charge accordingly?

I tried the battery calibration function built into the laptop's bios and now the laptop gets to 55% and keeps on charging without getting any further...(stays at 55% no matter how long it's being "charged"). Does this sound more like a laptop's charging utility problem or a battery problem?
