i have a t42 that needs a new battery, just that the ibm one is ~$125 or so and the "generic" ones are ~$70. anybody have any issues w/ using the non-name brand laptop batteries? they almost seem to be the same manf, just not the actual ibm brand.

There is No general answer, some time it works like the original sometime Not.

You save $55 and you "pray".

toner is less complicated and tends not to explode😉 that being said, u never know till u try😛 not enough reviews on this stuff.

You could say the reverse is true. 😉

i have heard about the batteries blowing up but thought that was a few years ago and the issues were taken care of?

I have a generic X41T battery. I couldn't buy new official ones anymore, and they were overpriced anyway. It seems to be working fine so far. I didn't really have any other option though, buying a used batteries or batteries manufactured a while ago (which is probably true for many official thinkpad batteries) is just asking for trouble, or at least short battery life.

do you remember where you got it from?

I was lucky to score a brand new X41T battery off ebay for $40. The guy was selling 10 of them. I couldn't find a similar deal anymore, but I do occaisionally find new ones for $60-70.

Some ebay store. I also once previously bought a new, sealed x41t official thinkpad battery, but they had been out of production for so long that it was losing its charge on its own.

The brand new x41T battery I got said it was made in 2006, but still came with a 68whr capacity, out of the 64whr rated capacity. I didn't expect it to be full either.

I think you can find much cheaper battery from online store, My friend told me here, it needn't more than 60$,

It needn't more you post your spam here. Shirley, you know this.

I've used a generic quite happily for a couple of years now. Of course, that's only one data point, but having built my own Li-ion packs for other (non-computer) applications, I would no hesitate to buy generic again. (Actually, first I'd consider prying open the existing battery and replacing the old cells with new Sanyos, but that's another matter)

Do you /need/ a battery? A small inverter fits nice in a computer bag if you have access to a 12V port.

12V is not always available. we have a couple laptops but whenever my wife goes somewhere she will take mine since its battery is good fro 4-5hrs or so, while hers may last 30mins at most.

I killed my truck battery thinking it could run my laptop for a long period of time while sitting in the college parking lot....an hour later and I couldn't crank. Thank goodness for a jump starter pack 😱

wasn't sure if it was like the generic toner cartridges?

I bought a 3rd party toner cartridge for my HP laser printer. After about 3-4 months, the printing got lighter. Still readable but annoyingly lighter. I ended buying a genuine HP toner cartridge from amazon and it?s like I bought a new laser printer. No more 3rd party cartridges for me!

Not saying that yours is one but for lurkers, beware of counterfeit batteries being sold on ebay as genuine OEM batteries. I bought a ?genuine OEM Canon battery? for our SD550 camera as a second battery from ebay. That battery failed and the original battery that came with the camera is still going strong. Found out (forget the exact details now) that the battery that I bought from ebay was a counterfeit one. I only buy batteries from reputable dealers now.
