laptop backup

I'm having problems with my toshiba laptop getting too hot and shutting down and looking to take into a certified service center. To date used disk space on it is a little over 57 gigs. Could I use GHOST and then link up my desktop pc with my laptop via ethernet and put the Ghost Image on my larger hd on my desktop system? I'm not sure of the innner workinga or particulars of GHOST. With more then likely having to take this thing in..i'd prefer to back up using the mentioned idea instead of going out and having bo purchase and external dvd burner. Any at all help and hints in the right direction would be great.

Common practice for sending in ibm thinkpads is to send it without the hdrive. They don't require it for repair and understand why owners don't want to send it in. I don't know if toshiba has the same policy.

There are several progs that will create images to a network drive, more reliable and simpler than ghost.
Don't use acronis tu9 right now. It is very buggy, but an earlier version works well, if you can find one.

Look at this solution . It gives you an excellant image program plus a hdrive for the price of ghost or acronis. It will also work without the included drive, the way you inquired.
Also google for their website. They have many solutions available.

Get a second hard drive and make a duplicate. That is always useful as a system backup. If Toshiba does not require the HDD, then don't send it in.
