I just bought a d600, but now i need to find a backpack to go along with it. any suggestions would be welcome. i was thinking of getting a jansport because it is the best looking, (i figure that all backpacks would be padded around the same).

edit: oh yea, and i also want to be able to fit some heavy books along with the backpack too.

i have a targus computer backpack (sony has one that's targus rebranded)..

its well designed and it does hold stuff, but i wont use it as my school back. It does not hold as many books as my school back. On my school bag i can hold my books + computer and still hold more than the targus. However the targus is better built than my 6 yr old school backpack.

I think the jansport ones will do, just make sure your laptop fits. I know my backpack for school gets quite tight when the laptop is in, and limits my carrying of books but it still holds more than the targus laptop backpack.

now i gotta look around for a store with these types of packs. but i think there are only a limited amount of stores around here that have these types. i'll have to check circuit city and compusa. i doubt office depot and office max will have a good selection. i wish we would have a best buy here. do you think costco sells these types of bags?

Buy a BIG Jansport backpack, then gop buy a CHEAP laptop bag. Cut out the laptop sleeve in the notebook bag (backing and all). Then cheaply sew/velcro the sleeve into your huge JAnsport back pack. Now you have a bag to safely carry your laptop, and all your books. Additionally, people wont see your bag as a laptop bag, and will go that much further to prevent your notebook from being stolen...

i picked up a targus at my campus store but it was too damn big - it felt like i had a freaking camping backpack. i opted for a smaller backpack from nike, an all-black epic. it's compact, but has a hard shell to protect the notebook. it's got adjustable lumbar, and a zipper/pocket underneath the bag to store the power cord. the net is great for storing misc. items - i mostly use it to secure my gym clothes.

thanks for the suggestions. as for the sleeve suggestion i would do that, except there's really no padding at the bottom of my backpack or on the sides for that matter, so i'd be constantly paranoid.

if you're looking for padding on the bottom, go for a jansport. they have an anti-shock system the protects your notebook against drops. here. as for the sides, i think you'll be ok.
