Laptop back from the dead...

I have a Sony Vaio VGN-T150 and it worked perfectly for 2 years until last year when it just refused to power on. I didn't have the money to take it to a repair place so I let it sit in my closet until now. On a whim I took it out, plugged it in and to my amazement it powered on!

But after a VAIO/Phoenix Tech. startup screen, I got this:
Something about CMOS?

I hit F1 and tried to start in Safe Mode but it would load up to a point and just hang here for about a minute:
Drivers\mup.sys

After that it just restarts. When I tried booting normally, I get the XP loading screen and then a BSOD.

Anyone have any idea what's wrong here? I'm debating taking it to a repair place, but I was wondering if the problem would so serious that repair costs wouldn't be worth it. Thanks in advance!

the button battery is dead, and possibly the main battery as well. that's why it will not boot, is because either the defaults are different than what Windows was installed with, or the motherboard is dying and this is a last gasp effort from the system. I'd go with the basics and try replacing the button battery and see if that helps. also, I would manually check the AC adapter to make sure it's still outputting the proper volts and amps.

sn00ke I worked for Vaio fixing laptops, if you take it to a repair place ask if they send it to Sony to do the repair because a lot do. And if they do and you don't want your data wiped make sure on any paperwork they have you fill out you write in big letters "do not format" I would write it in more that once place too. The Sony techs seem to love to format for anything "oh this laptop has a bad LCD inverter? ok, let me format after I replace the inverter just to be safe"
