Laptop as a router

Here is the deal;
I want to connect a Vonage adapter to the Lan card on my laptop which is wirelessly connected to the internet. In essence the laptop acts as a router. I tried to set up the XP NAT software by telling the wizard that other computers connect to the internet through my laptop, but no dice. The adapter would not boot up.

Any ideas?

This is what you should be doing instead of hooking your ATA-186 into the Laptop.

Yeah, but that's another $9.99 a month. Bit much for the amount of travel that I do. If what I am thinking of doing works, all I have to do is throw the small adapter and a phone into my lappy bag next time I travel.

Surely there's a way?
