laptop - apple - pc

My father wants a laptop, I was considering steering him to get a Mac (it's for basic use, surfing and word programs). But the prices are a bit more than a windows based laptop.
Is it justifiable? My buddy says he loves his Mac (never crashes, bla bla bla), so just looking for my opinions/suggestions.
Is a Mac really that much more stable than a pc based one?

It's not more stable than my PC. However, I also don't install spyware, poorly coded applications or lousy hardware drivers.

But I digress...the Mac is pretty, has a nice keyboard and screen, and runs Windows applications faster than Macintosh applications.

I would certainly be tempted to buy a Mac if I were in the market for a new laptop.

what he said. just kidding. Slugbait is correct. the Macbook Pro and not is a sexy machine. it's has a nice screen and OS X rocks. you can also install windows if he needs it but OS X might save you maitenance for his laptop. plus it comes with the iLife suite and plenty of nice apps. and the non pro doesn't cost much more then its competitors.
