Okay...as it turns out I will need to get a Laptop towards the beginning of Novemeber...I really don't have any experience, so I'm asking for help. Don't mis-read though, I need a damn cheap one...like 1500 max...but what do you think I could get for that...and where do you think I should go? I saw that Mercata sells Toshiba ones, and I have sill have that 100 off thingy...so, that would work, if tosh doesn't suck ass...okay, help?

Toshiba's are ok notebooks. I wouldn't be too scared of them, if you have a good deal and price is your major concern go with that. In fact, insight has a weekly deal on a satalite right now.

If you can spend a bit more I would buy a Dell notebook. I have worked with them for about 3 years now and they are, IMHO, the best out there. I just jumped over to dell.com and configured a 600 cel, and it was $1599.

I would stay away from IBM's. I have had nothing but bad experiences with them, and their support. For repairs we always had to ship the notebook to them and wait for a week or week and a half turn around to get it back.

If price is a consideration you might consider reconditioned laptops. Most of these have been completely checked out and retain mfg's warranty. Most sites like Dell, Micron etc have a page for reconditioned products. BTW, we have only IBM laptops here, (approx 50). They are all junk, and for every one with which I've had a problem I have had more knowledge than their technical support people.
