Laptop Advice

I need help, I am looking for a samll powerful laptop which has a 12in, or 14in screen, I have been looking for months but have comeup laptopless, I am thinking about buying an ALienware Sentia, which has enough of power, and it very portable It costs $1,800 Should I ?

From what I have read on a few forums, Alienware tech support is quite atrocious, and I think they are overpirced when it comes to the laptops.

If I were you, take a look at the Asus W3V...it is portable but has a lot of horsepower.

If you need power, but not for games, then look at the Asus W3A/Z63A (the one I just got), which is the same as the W3V but without a video card. Since the W3A/Z63A is what they call a "whitebook," you can get it from an Asus reseller customized however you want.

Mine is blazing fast... I reccommend www.geared2play.com

Like TheWart mentioned, it comes down to the video card. If you want gaming capabilities, the W3V is a great choice. One of the only 14" machines with decent discrete graphics - X600 graphics. If gaming doesn't matter, just get something with GMA900 integrated or ATI's RadeonXpress200M chipset.

The MSI S279 (or MSI-1013 IIRC) is a nice looking 12" machine that is based on AMD's Turion or Sempron, now with the low power Turion MT chips available!

The Asus models Wart mentioned for integrated graphics are also nice; Asus makes some good notebooks.

The HP dv1000/Compaq V2000/HP L2000 are all good machines as well: 14" widescreen with integrated graphics available as Centrino (Pentium M) or AMD Turion at a good price. They're a little hevier than most, ~6lbs; but it doesn't feel heavy and they are quite nice to carry everywhere.

How is the ATi RS480 integrated graphics?

I haven't seen anything with a 12" screen that would be good for gaming. You can get a good processor, but you seem to be out of luck if you want a good graphics card.

Might even check out Micron's U1000 (pretty sure that's the model #)

No, I don't work for Micron - Just very satisfied with the product, and the 2 to 4 minute hold times to speak with a tech in Nampa, Idaho. No language barrier for the english speaking...
