lapto mouse/touchpad going nuts

Hi all.
I have a samsung rf511 laptop which is great.
My grandad wanted a new laptop so i picked him up the same as mine, another rf511.

Im going over tomorrow but he is reporting that the touchpad is going nuts when he uses it. I got him to plug in a usb mouse and that is working perfectly but when he uses the ELAN touchpad his mouse is flying all over the screen and is uncontrolable..

even if he just touches the pad but does not move his finger the mouse is flying everywhere on the screen.
Does anyone have any ideas what might be the problem?

(ps i checked sensitivity and his settings match mine. His mouse is unusable though)

Agreed with the above. The only other thought, would be possibly a bad driver. I've seen bad touchpad drivers do the same. typically, either removing driver while using external mouse and just using windows driver works, or like Gunbuster said, bad hardware.
