It just amazes me how much laptops are going for.

Looking for a PIII (~5-600mghz) and up laptop, and seeing nothing below $400 hurts, especially considering laptops faster than my desktop (2500+) can be had for ~$500.

Why is this? Is everyone just trying to get back the $2,000 they paid for those PIII beauties back in 2000?

This poor CE student is /sad.

Still -- for a non-gaming machine, purely something to take to class and do notes and homework on, anything over $200 seems a little steep to me.

Recently, there were several machines on the trade forums-- one trader was asking $400 for his PIII 700, saying he had asked around as to how much it was worth, while still another offered his reasonably equipped 1.6ghz for a measly $500.

Anyone else see the conundrum?
Your costs are sunk.

Dear World:

Sell it for its worth, not as an attempt to recoup an investment.
