I have a friend of mine is doing a stint with the Peace Corps in Nigeria Africa. She dropped it and now it's dead. They want over a grand to fix it where I could buy her one and ship for half. Will she need a different power adapter? She said her old one wouldn't work so she recharged it via a cigarette lighter in a car.
Any ideas?

Tia :)

*Most* adapters that come with new laptops are 90-230V capable, and automatically switch. The only thing she needs is one of those kits like you can buy in walmart that converts the plug from US to the one they use in Africa (I know a kit in walmart that has 6 different plugs for 6 different areas of the world, but since I don't know what they use there, your mileage may vary).

Hey thanks :).

I might just send her the cash to get one there. It runs $300.00 - $400.00 just to ship it :( .

As long as it's a reputable company (Acer/HP/Dell/Alienware) ect ect the adapter will work. If they sell them in Africa, good chance being they'll be plugged for over there, so she may not need an adapter over there, but have to buy one to use it here in the states. Or she may need to ask a sales clerk to make it work. Either way, it'll work out fine when she gets the plugs right.
