I tried lapping it with 1000 grit, etc... and when i got up to 1500, i realized that the middle is still rough. It's like the sand paper can't reach it. After I found out, i went back to 400grit and worked my way up and found it was the same. I drew a grid and tried for a while but the middle was untoouched. anyone know why this is? would more force and time help in getting rid of this?

It seems as though the outer edges of the HS are higher than the middle . This happens when you use sandpaper without a sanding block of some sort . You'll have many inconsistancies without one .

Example : Imagine taking 60grit sandpaper to a piece of wood & sanded in one spot for too long ............ You get Valleys/Grooves in the wood , correct ?!?

Use a hard foam block larger than the HS & accompany it with 1200 grit sandpaper & sand away until the surface is to your liking . This will provide you with much conformity & will be very true in the end .

Just be patient sanding , for the side of your case is sufficient , I would suggest in the future , a small foam block .

Is the side of your case made of glass? if not, its probably not flat enough. Use a piece of glass from a picture frame. The object you lap can only get as flat as the surface you lap it on. The method in which you lap also affects its flatness. Use a circular or figure-8 movement, not back and forth. I've never had a problem with lapping, so it must be because you're lapping on the side of your case, lol :)
