This weekend I began lapping my new Zalman 7000Al-Cu and while it does feel smoother,
the copper portion is brighter but the aluminum sections look stained. Tomorrow I will
order my new mobo and cpu and now I'm concerned I may not be able to attach the fan
to the cpu without damaging it. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

shady06,
I am concerned that the staining may be oxidation of some sort that may inpact the cpu,
once the two are mated. It may be excess concern on my part but better to be safe than
sorry. Thanks for the input.

I get oxidation also.
When I remove my V7+ and turn it over the area that the CPU has contact with is 'Qxi-free'.

So, who cares, the same area for the core is used has no oxidation.

I would only be concerned if teh area that meets the core becomes stained.
Then I would use some light sanding with 1500 or more grit sandpaper to 're-lapp'.
