I just did this yesterday, so this is still fresh on my mind. You want to start off with a rough sandpaper and then move down to finer ones. I bought my paper at Walmart, in the automotive department. Don't go to Kmart, Lowes, or Home Depot, they don't have the one you want (3 hours of driving around). What I got was 3M imperial Wetordry. 1 big, 11x12, package of Assorted sandpaper (220, 320, 400, 600 Grit), one 3 2/3x9 in (none bigger) 1000 grit and another package of 2000 grit. Yeah, for those really fine ones, they don't sell assorted. You can use glass, but I don't think that's really that big of a deal, as long as the entire surface is smooth (I used a clipboard). The instructions you can find
here. Just remember, at least from my experience, is that the bottom, even after 10 mins of 2000 grit sandpaper, is still going to have tiny tiny scratches. I didn't have any polish so I don't know if that would work better. But anyways, if you look at it from an angle, it does look like a mirror and reflect stuff put near it. So good enough for me =) BTW, because it was my first time, it took me 5 hours to do two hsf. 1 Vocanlo 9 (which took me about 30 mins, it sanded so fast I was afraid that I was going to sand away the copper insert) and 1 Crystal Orb (which took me 3 HOURS of labor to get all the nickel off the bottom).
