lapping a hsf

Tape some sand paper on a table and start scratchin 🙂

EDiT: Oh, what do you mean: Lapping a HSF?, and why would a expensive CPU make it more dangerous? I thought they only lapped cpus.

Better to use a thick scrap of float glass as your lapping surface. You use several grades of sandpaper working from coarser to finer - say from 200 grit up to 600 or 800 grit. Remember it's flat that's important, NOT shine. One can polish a wavy or cupped surface to shine like a diamond but it won't be flat. And the truth is that you don't really want a shiny surface - satin would be better for heat transfer.

There are many HS lapping guides around the web with more details and tips. You can filter them by the ones that claim shine is important or grit over 800 is important - if it does, skip it and on to another.
