Lapping a Falconrock II

I'm working on a cool and quiet PC for my aunt, and I want a very cool very quiet setup. I've picked the Athlon XP-Mobile 2200+ 35 watt chip, since it defaults to 1.35V and overclocks to 10.5x200 with around 1.55V. I had planned on using Artic Silver 5 and a Falconrock II cooler to ensure cool and quiet operation, but a recent review on Newegg of the Falconrock II claims that its copper slug is rigged and unsuitable for thin high-performance thermal compounds such as AS5.

Has anyone had any experience/success lapping this cooler? If so, was it worthwhile or a waste of time? Any details you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Lapping a reasonable amount - say to 400 grit or so is almost always worthwhile on the cheap heatsinks. But for an aunt's machine, fageddaboutit.

If you're referring to the Speeze Falconrock, the ones I've received in the past have been more than smooth enough, and the stock patch o' goop works fine...

Depending on your Aunt's usage patterns, overclocking may be counterproductive- you'll have to use more potent case fan(s) to account for the extra heat output...

With modern boards, i strongly encourage folks to use the STR features- most of what ordinary folks like about faster processors is faster boots, and that's not much of a factor running 2K or XP- the box will wake up perfectly from sleep for weeks on end, and the power consumption is almost nil...
