So, I decided to lap my week 24 E6600. The IHS was significantly concave. Not anymore. Have a look at my before and after temps.

IDLE (Before lapping)
CPU: 31C
CPU core1: 48C
CPU core2: 50C

LOAD w/ Orthos Blend (Before lapping)
CPU: 42C
CPU core1: 67C
CPU core2: 67C

IDLE (After lapping)
CPU: 27C
CPU core1: 45C
CPU core2: 46C

LOAD w/ Orthos Blend (After lapping)
CPU: 36C
CPU core1: 57C
CPU core2: 57C

Load temps are approximate, as they tend to fluctuate to the tune of +-3C during the test.

Ambient room temp: ~23C

It would appear that the lapping resulted in a small, but not insignificant, reduction in idle temps, and a definitely significant reduction in load temps. :D

phile, lapping looks like a good idea for me too. I ran Orthos for 2 hours and the max load temp was 58c. I'd like to see how far I can push this thing. Wonder how mine stacks up to your currently?

Well I was using Asus AI, but I just downloaded CoreTemp. Asus AI reports 40c@ Idle and CoreTemp 44c@ Idle. I'm gonna have to run Orthos again tonight for a couple hours and see what happens then. I may be over 60c with CoreTemp, altho I hope not.
