LANPARTY UT nF4 Ultra-D fans stop spinning

crazy homeless guy

Junior Member

I recently purchased a LANPARTY UT nF4 Ultra-D for a new 64 bit system I am building. When I boot everything power's up, but after about 2 seconds, the CPU fan, and the chipset fan both stop, but the board continues to boot. I immediately power off, because I don't want to damage my CPU. I did leave it on for a couple of more seconds once, just long enough to see it display the LanParty splash screen on the monitor. Then I powered off again.

My system components...

LANPARTY UT nF4 Ultra-D
(4) 512 Corsair
AMD Athlon 64 3200
Leadtek geForce 6600 256 mb
Thermaltake 480w Purepower Power Supply

I have not tried going to 1 stick of ram yet. i unplugged my usb mouse, and just left the ps3 keyboard plugged in, same results.

The only thing that might be causing my problems is that my Thermaltake power supply is only 20 pin instead of 24. I have a converter installed on it.

Also, this board has 4 spots to plug in the power supply. Does anyone know what the other 2 slots besides the main power supply, and the 4 pin square power supply do? ./..what do they power?

Why did you not try looking into Bios / PC Health status

Defaults the northbridge fan and cpu fan to stop spinning if under 50 degrees celcius

Check the bios and change the settings in the pc health

Make sure all of those are plugged. Then I suggest the following:

Unplug PSU. Remove battery. Clear CMOS with jumper. Wait a few minutes.

Put CLEAR CMOS jumper to normal operation. Put battery back in. Plug in PSU.

Power up. WATCH THE FANS. If they stay on, go into the BIOS and load OPTIMISED DEFAULTS. SAVE AND EXIT. Go into the bios again after it restarts and start tweaking.

If the fans stop like before, power down your machine and then contact DFI either HERE or call em up. Looking at your specs, I would think the first thing they would focus is your PSU.

Hope this helps.

I hope others here can offer help. Please post if any of my suggestions are out of line as I'm a little sleepy at the moment and may have forgot something.

Do not load optimizsed defaults, this is most likely a bios problem. The default settings make the northbridge and cpu fan stop spinning if under 50 degrees celcius.

Just go into Pc/health status in bios and lower the shutdown temps of the fans or keep them on

Definitely look to see if CPUFAN or NB FAN have "TURN OFF IF (CPU or NB)TEMP < 50C"

I just tried both the 1/25 and 3/10 bios. The default setting doesn't have them turning off at < 50C. The default has both of them turning off at < 25C. So the bios settings on his board might be off when he got it. I'm assuming he hasn't had a chance to flash the bios and he's either got the official 1/25 or 3/10 bios.
