I have just built a computer with the following components :

> P4 3.0ghz
> 80gb HDD
> 1024 MB RAM
> Chieftec Dragon Full tower case (Black)
> Sony DVD-Rom/CD-RW (combo)
> DFI LanParty Pro
> Radeon 9800
> terratec phase 28 (sound card)
> 3 1/2" FD (black)

The problem is, is that the damn thing won't turn on. I installed and put everything together properly. Made sure i was always touching the case to be at the same polarity as the components/case. I checked with the motherboard manual to see how to put the little cables in properly (hdd ld, ATX switch, Reset switch, Power Led, speaker).

But still no joy.

So i thought that it may be that the MBoard had shorted out but it isn't i could check this by looking on the Mboard as it has a red light displayed if power is going through the mboard.

Any ideas your help would be fully appreciated ty.

What I would do first is take out a memory module. Assuming your gig is 512x2. Only leave 1 module in and try booting. I have been doing a lot research the last few days on new motherboards. This seems to be a reoccuring problem. Try the module in every slot. If it doesn't boot then, try the other module in similar fashion.

Also assuming your hard drive is new, check the jumper on it, most new HDD and optical devices come with the jumper set as slave.

Always check the obvious first. Make sure all your cables, to all your devices are seated properly.

Hi there ty for the help, you were right about the HDD it was on slave so i quickly switcched that over
and checked all cables etc.. although unfortunately that didn't work (

but i did discover a couple of things :

firstly the red led light i saw was not for the whole motherboard, it says in the manual

This led indicates that the pci slots are on standby and ready to use.

There is another led that is meant to come on which is the DIMM led, located just by the memory modules,
so im assuming that it is to do with the RAM.

Plus another thing is, is that although power is obviously going through the computer from the PSU, the PSU
isn't making a noise, i mean like the fan is not rotating or anything like that so im not sure whether it is
because of this either?

Any ideas?
