LanParty nFI SLI-DR boot problem

This is my first post. I've put together quite a few systems, and have been lucky to not have had many serious problems. This is my first attempt with "overclocking gear", and I just put this system together, and can't even get the system to run more than a few seconds before shutting down. The board jumpers are in its default state. I get 3 led's light up on power up, and then they shut off 1 by 1 leaving 1 lit after the system shuts down with only the cpu, PCIe video card and both memory sticks installed. I can't seem to find any good explanations of how the LED diagnostics tell me whats happening. Checked out DFI's site, but dead end. Been panicking, so maybe I didn't do a through enough search. I suspected the power supply (430W), so went and got the antec 500 W, with same results. I suspect the cpu is shutting down because of a possible bad interface with heatsink that came with the cpu, but thought I would tap the talent here for other thoughts. Hope I didn't fry something!! Would appreciate anybody's input. I'm hoping my system specs show up in my signiture, if not I'll post them.
Thanks guys:brokenheart:

Have you swapped DIMMs around? What are your timings and command rate set to now? I'd try one DIMM at a time and move it around... that's my general fix for crashing. Drove me nuts when I assembled my first AMD PC.

I have no firsthand experience with DFI but I have the sense that their boards are finicky. I also vaguely remember hearing that the BIOS versions that ship with DFI boards need to be flashed to the newest version ASAP.

Good luck!

Thanks Ryan, The ram is at its defaults, as is the board, and I can't change them. The documentation shows an example of 2-3-3-5, but is just an example. I thought I read a post about the BIOS needing updating too, but it was a post from back in March. Quite a trick to update the bios without getting it up to update. I don't think I have another chip that will work in this board. But first things first. I'll try the one dimm and moving it around and let ya know. Thanks again

Hey, at least it stays up now with the ram in sockets 3 and 4, go figure. I now have 3 of the 4 LED's lit as well. Now it has a long single beep which I'll have to go find out what that means. Still may have the BIOS issue. Hey man, that was a big help. Again thx for taking the time.......... I'll keep checking in, maybe someones been here...

Maybe I'm just too new to this, but loading the dual channel ram in slots 2 and 4 solved the problem. there was nothing I found in the "destructions" telling me this. This is my first dual channel ram, so maybe I was supposed to have known that, but it would be nice if it was in DFI's "Quick Installation" guide or in the manual that comes with the board. Anyway, I'm so relieved to know I didn't blow anything up, and I can venture into my "overclocking" venture. Thanks again to Ryan for getting me on the track. Also I found an excellant guide for setting up this board if you're interested. I hope its ok to post this link: http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/showpost.php?p=65304&postcount=49 Hope this helps someone else. Still need to check out that bios thing, I'll post again if it needs "coaxing"
