hi ,

I have a DFI Lan Party NF2 .

I just bought a Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 80Gb 7200 rpm SATA / 150 Drive .

Ive connected the SATA Cable and the Power cable .(so the SATA HDD is connected to the board fine)

I went to the BIOS , turned on the SATA device .

Unplugged my Primary Master HDD which i used to use . ( it says you cant occupie the Primary Master - port as the SATA uses it .

and tried to install Win XP Pro SP1 . - It keeps saying ( cannot detect and HDD ) press F3 to exit.

There were no jumpers on the Maxtor HDD , there are pins but no jumpers supplied.

I have no idea what to do next cause this is driving me mental. Any info would be greatly appreciated ... thank you . ;)

Did you give the XP install the raid sata driver?

I've setup other motherboards on Sata hard drives and XP usually needs the drivers to work with the sata controller.

hi ,

This is the thing , the only drivers that come with the board are RAID drivers (* HighPoint)

The chip the LanPartyNF2 uses is this big STUPID revolutionary chip that sopposedly dosent need Drivers :- The Marvel 88i8030-TBC chip .

This is what i find interesting .

The motherboard chip is a - Marvel 88i8030-TBC.
The Maxtor SATA HDD Chip is - Marvel 88i8030-TBC.

Now someone was telling me that Maxtor SATA HDD are really PATA HDD and they use the Marvel 88i8030-TBC chip to convert to SATA.

The Lan Party nForce2 Board Claims is uses a chip called Silicon Images - sil 2114 or something im not exactly sure it says the chip in the SATA bit in the BIOS.

Why has my Board CLEARLY got a Marvel 88i8030 chip right next to the SATA connector so i assume its there to control SATA as it IS A SATA CONTROLLER.

Anyway ive tried everything ive took everything from my motherboard except the GFX-Card / CPU / RAM .. Ive downloaded the latest BIOS and LanParty nForce2 Drivers .... but everytime i setup the computer windows XP & windows 2000 Pro .... say cant detect a HDD ???

It's driving me mental ... thanks for replying ... any further info would be GREATLY appriciated.

P.S the drive works in my other motherboard so i dont think the drive is faulty ;)

hi ,

Panic over :D

I found out what was wrong , i wondered why there was 2 BIOS releases in like 2 weeks !

The 1 i downloaded had the WRONG SATA controller in it and thh WRONG RAID controller..:frown:

I downloaded the very latest BIOS and it said it had updated the older version to support the Marver 88i8030 SATA controller .

The is now an option and it even says this time the right SATA controller and the right RAID controller.

must have been the old BIOS just werent enabling the SATA chip and thats why the drive wasent being located :)
