My friend laptop is going to be sold to a native in my lovely city, Qingdao China. It's a Toshiba and he's an american and he doesn't really have any use for the oeprating system being able to decipher Big5 code.. but the thing is that the lady it will be sold to will call me for tech support several times a day to wonder why these charachters aren't being displayed properly. ;) Is there any chinese downloadable language pack for win98? This guy is still using office 97! So the "Upgrade office XP to support chinese" thing wont' work... grr... this is like, the original 98... so..... I dunno if upgrading to 98SE will allow me to add Chinese support. CAN ANYONE HELP?!!!?

Thanks in advance to all the wonderful guys and girls out there in AT who might possibly have an answer for me.

Well... "Senior Member" ...haha... j/k... i almost had the same problem.

What I did was, I open up Internet Explorer > Tools > Windows Update. You'll click on the link that says PRODUCT UPDATES and it'll generate a list of things that your laptop might need (doesn't necessarily needs them but it's good to have a little update on). Then you want to scroll down for Language Support and download the one you need... the Chinese (Traditional) or Chinese (Simplified).

But now that you said the laptop is the original 98... I'm having a lil doubts.

Have you tried the following? They're downloadable and you'll just have to open the program so Chinese can be read:

NJstar.com
Richwin.com
TwinBridge.com
UnionWay.com

Otherwise... buy a Chinese for Windows 98 software.

Yep, well, I installed NJStar and Richwin, but both of 'em cost money to register. I think i'll just stick with these two now.
