OK. honestly, what is the deal with not letting us type in curse words. We all get around it. Does anyone here not know what fvck or sh!t means? i mean, its more of an inconvenience than anything. What do you guys think of it? useful? needed? stupid?

why do you need to use those words? aren't they generally looked down upon as impolite words, do you get a high or feel hardcore from using them? Whatever!

why do you feel the need to type cursewords on the internet on a decent forum like this one ?

i dont feel the need. it is just how i talk normally with my friends. i dont excessively use curse words, but when i wnt to emphasize something, i will. however, this is way off topic. it doesnt answer the question of whether or not the filter is useful.

these aren't your regular friends, they're internet ATOT'ers.. lol :p
i just don't like profanity on the internet when it's in the public domain. (but i don't mind it!)
in instant messages or emails to freinds.. it's great :), but to strangers, some of whom may get offended, it's not quite the same.

ok i agree with that. but does that make the language filter useful if there are ways to get around it? i bet i could type out a curse word if i just put spaces between all the letters. im not asking if cursing should be allowed or not.

They've got to draw the line somewhere. if they banned every possible version of every possible bad word, then pretty soon people would just figure out a way around that.

I think it's useful so you are forced to think about it and change those letters and keep it clean. I have used the words, sh!t and fvcktard before, but only when i'm aggravated at someone.. Not in my normal tone.
Using cursewords with spaces and underscores in between is silly looking i think.
I think the slightly changing a curseword by modifying a letter (because of a filter) strikes a good balance.

The filter discourages the use of curse words. If it was meant to be finer toothed wouldn't "fvck" or "sh!t" also be blocked? You can get around it, but I think it just reminds us that some people may be offended. Personally, I don't mind :D.

It's not a bad way to do it either. I've visited forums that search for a string of characters, even embedded inside words. For example, the word Matsushita would be Matsu****a.
