Lane splitting...do you do it?

I have no problems with motorcycles moving through traffic which is slow moving, there's no point in them waiting as well and if the cars are stuck in traffic its not particularly risky.
I'm not so keen on them zipping around fast moving traffic. As a driver I'm used to traffic coming from "normal" directions, bikes suddenly appearing from where they shouldn't as I'm changing lanes is not fun.

A guy died Wednesday doing it where traffic could turn across his path. The cars did not block the box and he thought it was cool to blaze on through. The car that was allowed to turn by the courteous drivers took him out.
Edit, this was about 4 miles from the house.
