Got a note in my mailbox today from my landlords (old couple that lives next door) that "due to the high cost of water" in city (paid for by landlord) that I am no longer allowed to wash my car on the premesis. And if I want to go ahead and wash it anyways, they will charge me $5/wash.
I think they are doing this because I got a new car 2 months ago and I wash it about 2-3x every 2 weeks or so. Not a ridiculous amount, and I use one of those water saving trigger sprayers. But everytime I'm out there washing they will come by and say "you gonna wash the paint right off that new car!"! HAR DE HAR HAR HAR!
Can they do this? I have a six month lease and it's up in December. It's not in the lease and my lease makes no provisions for addendums like this, mutually agreed upon or not.
What do I need to do if this is not allowed? Simply slip a note in their mailbox and formally say that I do not agree because it's not in my lease? It's not like I'm going to be washing my car daily here in Michigan in October, but when it gets nasty with snow, I'd like to be able to shower the salt off before pulling it into the garage on occasion.
