landlord recently installed garage door openers, so I have a remote thing in my car. today I got a letter saying that they wanted an additional $25 security deposit for the remote. I can see maybe having me sign something acknowledging that I received it, but wtf, they already have a $1200 deposit from me when I moved in a couple years ago. would you raise a stink?

My place lists a fee for loss for remotes and the RF key fobs for door locks, but doesn't collect a deposit up front. If you've already paid $1200 then yes, you should only have to sign sometihing not pay more.

"Should" doesn't mean much though, they probably have the legal right to make you pay.

No. Not over $25 and the added conveinience of a garage door opener with remote. BTW is the deposit refundable upon return of the opener? If not then I would raise a stink about that but not the $25 dollars.

My building just told me to buy one of my own and they'd program it for me. Cost me like $20.

You already paid a deposit, they shouldn't be able to suck any more money off of you.

It's probably not necessary for them to ask for it, but it's $25...and much more convenient. If they pull this stuff again then let 'em have it for both instances.

I had to pay a deposit of $50 per remote to open the gate into our complex PLUS $20 per entry card to get into the building/garage.

give them the remotes back, pick up a couple on fleabay and re-program them for your opener. problem solved.
