Is there any way to verify the integrity of one? ;) Found a great place near school but they need two references which I Do not have! :S

Maybe put some friends down and let them know.

Do you not have any references becuase you have not lived on your own yet? If thats the case you might tell ther person that, but if you think it will end your chances of getting the place you could try the above option.

<------- Going through the same thing right now :)

Yep, never lived on my own before :( I asked them earlier and they said they need those references for their insurance company. Is that typical?

How about character references then? Just tell them the truth. Explain that this is your first renting experience, and you need a chance. Bad habits form at an early age, and if you justify a lie, then you will justify other lies as you go thru life.

Insurance? I don't know about that, usually when I've had people ask its for a reference, to see what kind of tenant I was. Did I pay my bills on time, to check if I'm responsible. Those sorts of things.

Well I don't know about that, one mans opinion I suppose. It's really hard when your first starting out though. Even though I have plenty of references to go on, and I have always been (whats reported to me) a good tenant. Thought I am still under consideration and I have hard time becuase of my age. When in school I know what its like to find that ideal place and whatch it slip away just becuase of something like that.
