LONDON (Reuters) -- Tour de France winner Floyd Landis has given a positive drugs test for the male sex hormone testosterone, his Phonak team said on Thursday.

"The Phonak Cycling Team was notified yesterday by the UCI of an unusual level of testosterone/epitestosterone ratio in the test made on Floyd Landis after stage 17 of the Tour de France," Phonak said in a team statement.

A professional cyclist with testosterone in their system?

Something is definitely amiss...

Lol......well when compared to those European guys.

Team Phonak was amidst the scandal of Doping from the raid in Spain. Many thought Landis was clean, including me. :( Oh well.

You can't beat the tests because they happen too frequently, especially to Lance Armstrong (who was totally clean)

**EDIT**
The Spain doping scandal might have killed the Tour reputation. Now that the winner tested positive, it clinches it. :(

It is amazing that athletes doing this stuff always think that they will be the one smart enough to get away with it.

We should remember that testosterone is a naturally-occuring hormone in humans, and natural variances are common, so he may still be 'clean'. At least I sure hope he is. But if he's not, then he should (and likely will) lose his title.

I'm betting that there have been plenty of athletes who have been smart enough to get away with it...

And with his coming hip replacement surgery, he probably wouldn't have been too good cycling afterwards, so this was probably his last chance to win the Tour. :( Man, this is tragic.

To end your career as a history maker and then have it shot down in utter shame. I hope this is a lesson to the others on the Tour. DON'T DOPE! :|

How will they make the distinction? How do you determine if high levels of testosterone are artificial or natural?

That is true. Especially with al lthe Cortisol he was taking for the pain in his hip. His body could have produced an excess of Testosterone. Especially after such a crazy history making ride. One can only hope that is the case.
