An avid amateur cyclist, Witt met Landis through a mutual coach in 1998 and at one point the two shared an apartment in San Diego, Henson said. It was Witt who introduced Landis to his future wife and has been credited with introducing Landis -- a former mountain biker -- to the world of road racing.

Witt and Landis served as best man at each other's weddings, Henson said. Witt married Amber Landis' mother Rose, a schoolteacher, a short time after the younger couple married in 2000.

They say that, but it's immediately followed by "Witt introduced Landis to road cycling, his wife, they served as Best Man at each other's weddings... blah blah blah".

why would his father in law commit suicide before him.. it couldnt have been a bigger burden on him than landis

it might have been the straw that broke the camels back, but he was already on the edge probably.

This must be a truly painful tragedy for Landis.

What I don't get about suicide is why do it alone in your bathroom, etc? Fvck, if you're going out of the world, go out with a bang. Steal a car, drive 150MPH, rob a store, take out a known criminal/mob boss, buy a kid an ice-cream sundae, jump naked off a skyscaper, etc.

Just fvckin do *something* - what difference does it make?

Read the article, Witt and Landis were friends before Landis even met his wife and before Witt became her stepfather. They became friends through cycling.

I'm not saying the doping thing is the primary reason this guy killed himself, but it's not an insignificant part of it, either.

I would wager that people kill themselves becaue they have lost the desire to do exactly that. (Crazy, pro-active, life affirming stuff)
