This is a picture of part of my back yard.. I moved into the house a few months ago, and am starting to work on the land scaping. The bushes, little flower garden, and tree were all there when I moved in. I want to put something on the ground between the bushes so it will look better. Here is a close pic of the ground between the bushes. The landscaping cover material that keeps stuff from growing between the bushes is exposed. I was thinking about putting woodchips on that material so it wouldn't look so bad? Are there any other options I have(other than rocks)?

put some mulch. woodchips are nice, and if you want the soil to become fertile as hell, just put down either mulch or woodchips, next year rototill the mulch/woodchips into the ground and then reapply new mulch. it should be a darker mulch i think would be the look your looking for.

It's not exposed dirt, there is landing cloth everywhere? I don't think a rototiller would be able to go through that?

Firstly, you must find... another shrubbery! Then, when you have found the shrubbery, you must place it here beside this shrubbery, only slightly higher so you get the two-level effect with a little path running down the middle.

Scrape it back to bare ground. Put new weed block material down, and then gravel if you don't want weeds to grow. It never ceases to amaze me when people put down mulch and then allow weeds to reclaim it. Mulch doesn't care what grows in it, so if you don't have a plan, put down gravel.

You'll need to remove the landscape cloth.

It would really make a difference if you used some landscaping blocks there instead of those cheapo wood timbers.
