So a co-worker hears that I'm looking to replace a car that was taken long before its time. He puts me in touch with someone selling an Infiniti Q45 2002 model with just over 100k on the clock. I'm somewhat 'meh' about it for a number of the default reasons...over a decade old, can be pricey to fix, not a matter of if but when things start going on it, etc etc.

Long story short, he assures me this thing is a creampuff...well taken care of, *ALWAYS* taken in for service appointments according to service schedule and had each and every line item of the service schedule performed, and driven by a little old lady. Alarms begin going off shouting at me as too good to be true.

Each and every word was true. When I called the dealership to check on the vehicle history, the guy immediately knew the lady who owned it. Went down the list and told me each and every thing they've done to it. It's there now getting a PPI, compression test, and diagnostic done...and the little old lady is paying for it. Neither the Svc Mgr nor the head tech (who has serviced the car since she bought it) foresee any mechanical or fit/finish issues...hopefully a big win.

I may be able to walk away with this gem for around $8.5k. What say thee, ATG...buy this land yacht to serve as a solid 3rd family car? We already have an SUV (wife drives) and a smaller sport sedan (I drive mainly now but will pass down to daughter since she has longer commute to school). This will end up being my daily driver (total 25mi per day max) and something I can take clients around in as well when needed...

Came in expecting a land yacht but was sorely disappointed. That is not an Infiniti land yacht, This is an Infiniti Land Yacht! Anyways I would say the price is good, the cars hold up really well. They are also really comfortable. As long as everything checks out why not?

Expect 14-15mpg and you will need to run premium fuel in it. They are great cars for sure but kind of fugly... better looking than the M45 of that year at least but that's not saying much.

Sadly that design hasnt aged well aesthetically to most. I personally love them and think they are kick ass! The Gas mileage will be in the low teens but who cares. If cared for those things are crazy bullet proof.

Beware of idle and and hesitation issues and misfires. Since this one was dealer maintained it should idle clean.

For your listed uses it would be great! You could get a ls400 in that money range.

Agreed. The Q45 has a V8. 25 miles of driving will run you over $8 per day. The car is rather plain and looks a little like a Hyundai.

OP, I did a quick/dirty on-line estimate for you (I was curious). I guessed what color the car is and what add-ons it has. Based upon this the estimates was:

Trade in = $5,900

Private Party = $6,700

Dealer Retail = $8,100

This estimate was based upon an "outstanding" condition of the vehicle.

Premium gas here in Alabama is around $3.80 (give or take) and the car gets around 18 - 20 mpg depending on how heavy my foot will be.

I checked all the estimators online as well as got it valued both as private party and retailer sell from the Infiniti dealership. $8,500 is considered a little on the high side of private party and way on the low side of dealer retail. Considering the condition and the fact she's putting on two new tires and brakes before I get it, the price is good with me.

Picked the car up yesterday for the price I wanted. Looks like I'll be averaging around 20mpg based on my driving yesterday and today...admittedly that's a very small window to base long-term mpg on.

I'll be putting on a new drive belt in the next couple of weeks along with removing a little oxidation/haziness from the headlamps.

That's all she needs right now. A tune up/new plugs will be on the way sometime near the end of summer. That will be it for the next 20k miles.

I'll get some pics up tomorrow.
