Lancool makes old, new again - Lancool K7 case

There are a few minor twists on the theme inside, but basically your standard compact midTower case. Perhaps the first Lian Li case with a steel frame and aluminum skin (at least as far as I can remember).

Rodney has a review of the Lancool, Metal-Boned, K7 Case here:

I have yet to find a place to buy one - if you run across a decent reseller that has it, let us all know.

Enjoy,

Nice case! Thanks for posting this; I didn't know anything about this case. Never heard of "Lancool." Is that a "spin off" company (owned by LianLi?) or is it actually a diff company?

One of the best things about this case is that it has NO holes/fans/grills of any kind on either side. 🙂 The way a good case should be. Sadly, that's not the case w/most of LianLi's newer products, some of which are otherwise pretty perfect.

Here's another review (lots of pics too).

Rather than list my "likes" about this case (there are a lot!), I will list my dislikes. None of these are really "show stoppers" though.

- Power button on top (not a good idea...too easily accidentally pressed)
- Not great HD mounting system (same as on the A70-A71 series, which I would've bought already if not for this same problem)
- Power supply mounting shelf not open enough on bottom (99% of all modern PSUs' have a bottom-mounted fan...case requires modding right off the bat)

I guess the bottom line is "Would I buy it?" Yep, if I was in the market for a mid-tower to replace my P180, I would. It's definitely better than the CM Cosmos case. At least this case got it's HD cooling right. But right now I'm looking at a server case. If the Chenbro 10769 had filters, it would be under my desk already. 🙂

Thanks again for posting this, Zep.

Hey Mike D,

I'm sure the optional hot-swap cages for the 10769 have filters or, if not, you can get another brand that does Other than that, there is no front fan, thus no filter. If you want one with a filter than the 10568/69 have them and support 92mm front fan.

Thanks, Zep. I was thinking about getting 3rd party cages too. Specifically the AMS 5-drive cages.. (5 drives in 3 spaces). But, I dont' know if they will fit. Some case manufs are picky about what drive bay appliances they will let fit in their cases. Chenbro's hot swap cases do look pretty standard though. I.E. smooth sides, no projecting mounting tabs, etc.

I have a 105-series case and it's got the 92mm fan, non-hotswap cage. It has a filter. But it only holds 3 drives. 🙁 I love my P180; it's dead quiet now that I've modded it. BUT, it's a PITA to work with....so small inside. 🙁

I really like that case. I attempted to view the video, but it's no longer available.
I e-mailed Lian Li to check on availability. I've got a gut feeling it's only available outside of the USA right now, though.
I didn't see any wheels in the pic...bummer...hehehe.

Sorry Vin,

All the links around the article are for buying other Lian Li cases - not a Lancool. The Lancool is OEMed by Lian Li for Lancool like the Modular Cube is OEMed by Lian Li for some Scandinavian company.

Well, Vin, you know what I think about acrylic cases...

Speaking of your thoughts on cases, Zep, what's your castitude rating for this case? 🙂

Yup, Rodney is a simple man - the "body" or "skin" is aluminum - it's the chassis or frame that is steel... Casitude score on the Lancool K7 looks like 4 of 5. Lacks the indirect front ventilation for noise abatement. I thought of giving it 4+ for the reversible HDD cage and dual front fans so all the HDDs get direct air, but other points cancel, so a flat 4 it is...

I got an e-mail from Baron @ Lian Li.
He said the K7 will be available @ Newegg around the end of this month.
I'm awaiting his reply on pricing.
