Thats why I quit football.

High school coach actually endorsed secret use of X drug to get bigger and better before college.

Yep, I played at a huge HS in GA and at least 75% of our starters clearly used steroids. I remember going away for summer after Sophomore year and when I came back there were backup linemen and DB's benching almost as much as I did....keep in mind I was 6'2 280lbs and one of the most naturally strong kids in the county.

In fact, my little league teammates at South Gwinnett actually played for the State Championship my senior year of HS and I started on that team until daddy ball took it over. I ended up at a different HS due to zoning districts, but it was cool to see my friends go to state. I also quit part of the way through Junior year when I started noticing all this stuff.

Our coaches actually had a poster in the weight room that showed all the bad things steroids did to your body, and one of them was it made your penis larger. WTF lmao

It was just unreal.

Yea. Publicly they would denounce the stuff. But behind closed doors with starters and players with potential they would endorse it and help one get it.

What kind of drugs did he take?

The allegation is that he took erythropoietin (EPO), a hormone that stimulates red blood cell production. The increased red blood cell count allows the cyclist to carry more oxygen. The downside is that the increased viscosity of your blood can lead to heart problems, and occasionally deaths. Nearly all of the top cyclists of the past 20 years have been found to dope in this manner. Only in the last decade have they developed tests sensitive enough to distinguish the recombinant hormone from the naturally occurring one.

As for whether or not he did it, obviously I haven't seen the evidence. I do find it hard to believe, however, that nearly every rider out there was doping except him and he was consistently trouncing them all.

Yea, if those witnesses work. I may as well say stuff like:

"I seen Obama in a whitehouse window snorting some white powder. Please incarcerate him as I am a witness and Obviously right."

"I seen Romney punching 2 children of a different race at night outside his home. I am a witness, he must be found guilty under the fact that I am telling the truth under an oath of law!"

add in witnesses who have a grudge and a reason to lie with the fact Armstrong has NEVER failed a drug test.

should be interesting though what the UCI does.

it would be possible that he could he is a freak either way. BUT saying that most of the top riders who dope have been caught. yet a guy who is the most heavily tested man EVERY has NEVER failed a test. don't you find that odd?

That is how it works, and if you seem like the type who wouldn't go for it ( like me ) they would bench you even if you were one of the two or three best players at the school. It was pathetic. I transferred to another school and made All-State in baseball, meanwhile my little league friends knocked them out of the state playoffs. :p

Fuck those people.

Not really. It's really hard to test for blood doping, and if you're really careful about the timing, you can make sure that you have very little in your system during the races themselves. Many of those who have admitted to use were not caught by a blood test, but rather by testimony and circumstantial evidence of the kind Armstrong is being confronted with now. Armstong's teammates (most damningly George Hincapie) are now coming out and admitting their use as well, as well as saying Lance used with them.

If this were criminal trial the defense would have to be shown all of the prosecutions evidence. Where is the SOLID evidence?

Looks like Nike and Anheuser Busch is going to continue their partnerships with Lance.

I wonder how that affects advertising.

If he is stripped, can he still be called the 'seven time Tour de France winner' in ads? Would they have to be more subtle with something like him saying "I wore the yellow jersey seven times" or something stupid like that?

This is actually a good thing for the sport, assuming Lance is guilty. I'm not sure what else could stop the rampant doping than something drastic like this. If they start issuing lifetime bans to everyone that is caught it might put an end to the PEDs.

Nothing will stop it.

OP thread title is misleading.... as always.
OP Reading comprehension fail, big time. Big difference of "To strip" vs. "Stripped".

He hasn't been stripped of his 7 year Tour titles, yet
. He is "currently" facing a lifetime ban.

Link to OP article.... What does article title actually say?

USADA to strip Lance Armstrong of 7 Tour titles

Current CNN article. What does it say?

Lance Armstrong facing lifetime ban, loss of titles

Does anyone really care if they strip him of his titles? What are they gonna do, give it to the guys who came in 2nd or 3rd, whom all tested positive or have corroborating evidence against them as well? If they were all doing it, just let it stand.

I've said before I think they should just allow PED's. People have been using them for decades now, so why the big problem all of the sudden? All you're doing by outlawing them is hurting the guys who follow the rules. Seems counter-productive.

This is actually a good thing for the sport, ....-snip-

I disagree, and do so whether or not Lance is guilty.

I understand the need to stop cheating, but the people in charge of cycling have approached this in such a egregious manner that all most people think of when cycling is mentioned is PEP. They've damned near ruined the sport.

Were cyclist like Eddy doping and nobody caught it? Every record in cycling is subject to doubt.

IMO, do the test and then move on. If they pass, fine. If they don't, fine. But move on. Going back years and years isn't productive and looks vindictive.
