If you think you ever had any better luck getting your parents attention even when there was much less going on then it has been a long time since you were a child.

Considering he also got passed right at the finish line to fall to seventh, I think it was a combination of him being extremely pissed at himself, and him being too exhausted to think straight.

But it is widely acknowledged that he is an a-hole.

If you've ever raced, by the end u have tunnel vision to finish and once u pass the finish line your main concern is staying upright.

Yeah, I did a half marathon in February and I blew right my friend who was near the finish line yelling out at me. Had absolutely no clue she was there, even though she said she was yelling as loud as she could, and I just plowed through to the finish line.

I can only imagine it would get even worse if I was doing a triathlon.

Seventh place is nothing to be proud of...

#1. You've never done ANYTHING in your life.
#2. You clearly dont know anything about what that man has been through.
#3. Since you would rather run your mouth than learn, you will never fix #1 and 2.

Comments in vid say right after that video ends he actually acknowledges his daughter and son...

Also, to all the haters: 17th place is basically failure. No one goes, "oh wow, you got 17th place. You're so pro." People don't give a shit. Top 3 in a big competition is all that matters.

I don't think he was disrespecting his daughter but I did have a question about the finish - is it common for athletes to try to beat someone at the very end like that? This is not the TdF where there are sprint finishes. The guy just sped up to say he beat Armstrong by a second. Is that normal?

Yes, it certainly would be at the front of the pack. I recall that the guy who got second, Simon Whitfield, in the 2008 Triathlon was something like 5th place until the last 200 yards or so and he managed to sprint past a few other guys. Really it's like any other race, just typically in slow motion. The Ironman has occasionally had some sprint finishes like this, the previous 8 hours were just to burn them out.
