LANBOY on a plane

I've built a new computer for my dad and am going to bring it with me when I visit him. Question is, has anyone ever taken a LANBOY case on a plane? Did security give you crap about it? I measured teh dimensions and it is within the legal limits. (as long as the box isn't used)

What do you think?

I'm tempted to say "fill it with toenail clippers and watch 'em freak out" 😀 but my guess is they'll have a problem with it anyway. I'll be interested to see any other replies, but my advice would be to assume that it, uh, ain't gonna fly.

Then again... laptops are allowed, right? Hmmm.

Of course I can't turn it on, but it does have that clear window so they can see that it's full of wires... on the other hand, that might not be good either. might look a little "bombish".

Tell them it's a computer for your Dad, and you don't want to check it, should be just fine. Call the airline to check.

They may ask you to make it work, but if wage slaves can take their laptops on the plane I fail to see how they can stop you from taking a LANboy; it's just a little bigger, and if you say it's within the acceptable dimensions...

Why can't you just pack it securely and have them take it below. IIRC, you can only have a carry-on or two with you, and it would be a LOOONNNGGG flight if you just sat there looking through the window of your Lanboy because you had nothing else to do.

You could always pack it up and ship it there.

Call the airline though and ask them what they recommend.
