Hello,
I want to network a windows 2000 computer with onboard LAN mobo on an already existing LAN. I set it up with its own IP address 192.168.0.4. I see the LAN connection in the bottom RH corner of the windows screen, but I cannot ping to it or from it. (connection timed out error). Please help, and thanks.

Regards,

JIM

Do you have the subnet mask and default gateway set appropriately? Also make sure you haven't already designated that IP address to another device on the network.

Also, unless there's a particular reason for needing the machine to have a static IP, just set it to automatically configure via DHCP.

Use DHCP, it will make your life easier!
