LAN (T3) Tweaking?

Any LAN tweak guides? I'm using WinXP w/ a Netgear FA311 card and my downloads are slower then most people have been getting on my campus. Also, I'd like to share the connection with my laptop and was wondering if I could do this with just 1 network card for the computer that's sharing it. I have a switch but I'm not sure if it would work plugging in from the wall outlet to the switch and the switch to the computer and laptop. Is this possible?

It would be possible to share the 'net connection using a third party program such as that available from Sygate

You'd plug the wall outlet to the switch...then both computers to the switch..then run the internet sharing software

Sygate will let you do this with only one NIC because it creates a "virtual NIC"

Most internet sharing software (and the native windows ICS) require two NICS

As far as LAN tweaks..i can't help ya there. Perhaps you're living area is just saturating more bandwidth than other peoples?

Your switch should work, but only if you are allowed two IP's in your room. Check with the campus technology people and see what they say.
