lan probs

im in a townhouse with 4 other people. we have time warner cable. the connection was very spiky, constantly goin offline and online so at first we thought it was the router, so we replaced it twice. then i thought it was the virus on my roommates computer so we reformatted it. still the same issue. any suggestions?

by the way, when i plug directly into the modem it works fine. all the routers work fine at my friends' apartment

What about the other pcs? Did you try them on the modem by themselves? Try each pc hooked directly up to the modem. One at a time and see what happens.
