i've got two pcs running winME through a linksys switch and a cable modem. however, neither shows up in the network neighboorhood on the opposite pc. also, sometimes when i try to map a network drive, it says it doesn't exist even though i triple checked the ip share and connection! help me

One thing to check that you didn't mention is the Workgroup that the 2 PCs are in.

Right click My Computer and go to the Network Identification Tab. The Workgroup name should be the same on both boxes.
 
Also, you may not have the NetBEUI protocol installed.
Go into your Network Properties, and look for NetBEUI for your LAN device. If it's not there, add that protocol.
