LAN party planning

Looking to set up a local LAN shindig. Gonna use the club room in the basement, should easily hold 30 people, and has no fewer than 10 circuits supplying electricity. A Cisco 2924 will handle the networking with a pair of Linksys rackmount 16-porters as backup. This'll all be open only to local people from school - essentially amounting to two teams. Upperclassmen vs. Freshmen. My friends vs. my brother's friends. A $15 fee will be collected from all participants ahead of schedule (Expecting ~20) for the purchase of chips, soda, and copies of games for serving purposes. Networking will be handled by a DHCP, and internet access will be CLOSED (Only access we have here is two dialup pipes anyway). Game serving will take place on two machines - one running Linux for most games, and another running Windows for the rare game that doesn't have a Linux server.

There are a few issues that I expect to crop up, and am wondering how I should deal with them:
I 100% expect there to be at least one computer that gets hauled in here and ends up with a corrupt HDD. Fortunately, as well as a small conference hall, this basement also houses a fully functioning computer repair shop. Naturally, everyone brings their own game CDs (Or gives my brother and I more money ahead of time so I can buy them a copy), but how do you deal with operating system?

In the event of female gamers and/or people dragging their girlfriends along, how do you prevent an orgy/gang rape from breaking out in a room full of teenagers?

Since we're talking about largely non-technical high school kids here, how do you curb the flow of viruses from one infected computer to another? Does that Cisco have port blocking capability?

What games should I expect to handle?

And no, you can't come. So don't ask. Maybe next time - if this works out.

if they're bringing their own machines i don't texpect corrupted hard drives. the kind of guys that go to lan parties would faint at the mere sight of bewbies, so i don't expect orgies and gang rapes to be a problem. have everyone scan with AVC before plugging into the network

Orgy/gang rape shouldn't happen, too many geeks anyways. Have everyone scan their computer before hooking up to the network and showing someone there are no viruses. If they don't bring their own OS cds, too freakin bad! BF1942, unreal, & CS for sure.

Heh. Heh. This isn't your normal LAN crowd - We're looking at everything running the gauntlet from football players to junior firefighters to EQ nerds. Just a more high tech way of telling the incoming freshmen who's boss.

EDIT: Oops, I just saw where the entire stipulation that everyone was gonna be a nerd came from - I typed "closed to everyone locally at school" instead of "open only to..." Fixed that.

tell those that want to have the LAN gang rape to take it to your parents' bed room.

Haha yes. One problem solved.

Also, planning on the following games based on a quick survey of interested parties:
Tribes 2
Vice City (Modified with Multi-Theft-Auto, I just tested this tonight, and it works AMAZINGLY well)
MOH:AA
No BF1942 - the only two computers good enough to run it belong to the hosts 😎
Starcraft/BroodWar (That game still exists?)
C&C Generals
WarCraft 3
CounterStrike
Global Operations (Same game concept as Counterstrike, except better - it promotes more teamwork)

I'm planning to allow speakers to promote verbal communication and simply draw a sound-dampening curtain down the center of the room (We have that much of the stuff laying around here...) to prevent team chatter from reaching the other team. Music of course will be outlawed - a request-based playlist will be queued up on the Windows server before every match and piped over a few loudspeakers to provide that.

Nah. They tend to play football, hang out at the fire station and play EQ for fun. But such is a possibility when you give people caffeine, get massive amounts of testosterone pumping in a 100mbit frag-fest, and females are around.
