LAN Mystery I cannot solve!!!!

I have a LAN setup with a computer as server and a few clients that gets their IP from dhcp. However the server cannot ping one of the client at all and I dont know why?? The internet connection is routed ok to this client, but if I do the actual ping of the client's Ip (192.168.0.120), it wouldnt go through. From the client side, I can ping the server (192.168.0.1).

I have made sure that the client does not have firewall of any sort. I have also checked that they have the same subnet mask 255.255.255.0.

I am not sure wats wrong?!?

the client has some sort of firewall, or you would be able to ping it. Double check the windows firewall.

filtering? Where would that be configurated? (All os are windows btw)
The cable shouldnt be a problem, as I side, the problematic client can get on the internet just fine (which means dhcp/NAT is all working fine but ping or any other services like windows shared directory are not working)

Windows firewall is not on and I did not install any firewall. Could it be that the network card is somehow blocking certain traffic? I have the onborad LAN from GIGABYTE 965P-S3

let me also add that all the other clients cannot ping this problematic client either, not just the server

Sounds similar to a problem I just had. Try installing the NWlink NetBIOS protocol on the client computer. Also trying going to the network connection properties for the NIC and the under advanced and click on the settings button. From there click the advanced tab adn make sure that you uncheck the box by local area connection.

Installing Microsoft's Netware IPX/SPX implementation protocol is not going to resolve an issue with pinging...

i have to agree with Mweaver .. the Client has a Firewall which is blocking you from Pinging It
If it is Windows XP it is "Allow incoming echo request" ... that Must be checked if you wan to ping it

Also check the settings under the ICMP tab of the Network card

If the "bad" client PC has an NForce chipset, consider installing a separate PCI network card and see if the problem goes away. There have been various "weird" networking issues with NForce networking connections.

You'd be wrong about that. I know because it just happened to me. See this thread. I couldn't share files or ping until I installed the NWlink NetBIOS protocol and as soon as I did both worked perfectly. Not saying it will fix your problem but it is worth a try.
