Hi. I am currently sharing cable modem with another computer. I am running Win2k Pro and the other PC is running Win98SE. We are connected with SMC Barricade Router. Our internet connection works fine but somehow we cannot see each other on network neighborhood. My PC can't see the other vice-versa. I created a Log-On ID for the other computer to log on and everything.
Any basic things that I need to know about sharing files over a router?
Thanx in advance.

The Router allows you to share a Connection, but basically, you don?t have a functional network (that has nothing to do with the Router). You have to go over all the Sharing procedure in Win2K and Win98, and make sure that every thing is checked correctly.

Sharing setting in Win98.

Make sure that you log on as Client for Microsoft Network.

There are three places to be checked for sharing:

The first two are in Control Panel, Network.

1. The Protocol that you are using for sharing, in the properties of the protocol it has to be bound to Client for Microsoft Network, and Sharing is Checked.

2. The general File and Print Sharing have to checked.

3. In My Computer, individual Drive or/and printer has to be checked for sharing.
