Just got some cheap MBs to use for SETI. These MBs have a Realtek 8139C lan chip on them and a 10 pin header described in the manual as Lan Header. No pinout and I didn't get the cable with this refurb.

Anybody can tell me what the pinout is on this Lan Header so that I can make up a cable?

TIA

It ought to have a LAN jack stacked on top of the two rear USB ports, as pictured here, no? I built one last week and it had the jack, at least.

BTW, the header that gave me fits was the front-panel one. The manual is correct but confusing. The one I got was a retail-boxed board, so if yours doesn't have the rear Cat45 jack I'll see about finding the info you need for that header.

wireless probably has a K7SEM v1.x. Yours is a v3.x which actually are PC-Chips M810L, those have the LAN RJ45 connector above the USB slots.

Older boards that have a LAN header on board need a LAN bracket thingie. There's active line interface components on those, so the pinout won't help much. You need one of those:

Or, if you bought them new, return that old stuff and insist you get the current revision ... those old ones also don't run newer CPUs - unless they have a "B1" sticker somewhere.

Thanks Peter. I saw on the ECS site that it used "bracket w/transformer" but couldn't find anything else about it. Seems strange to put the 8139C chip on th MB and then put more stuff on an external piece. Oh well! With NICs running $5 or so it isn't worth looking farther.

Thanks for the info.

Well the existance of K7SEM v1 is odd in the first place - granted that within the same company, an almost identical product (M810L) was developped at the same time (and seems to have done quite a bit more successfully in sales). More oddities: The SiS 730S chipset has a very decent LAN channel integrated alright, so why put another LAN chip on the PCI bus?

Well, the fact that they now resorted to using the M810L for K7SEM kind of admits that the original K7SEM was kinda strange.
Your other alternative would be to find the CNR card that was supposed to go with K7SEM - there's your SiS chipset LAN channel then ...
